COAL VALVE
PEBCO® is recognized by power
generation utility consultants as an approved supplier of coal valves. Benefits
of the Coal Valve (CV) include:
- Completely enclosed
- NFPA Code 85F design available
- Self-cleaning rack and pinion gear design
- Drive and rollers protected from flow of the
coal
- Unique "U" shaped blade with driving
pinion
located above the self-cleaning rack.
This valve is used on coal and/or
limestone in boiler house operations, yard handling, feeder inlets, feeder
outlets and bunker outlets along with truck and rail dump hopper outlets.

FEATURES OF PEBCO®'s COAL VALVE
- Construction is of minimum ¼" thick mild
steel plate. Valve is continuous welded for dust and watertight construction.
All welding is per AWS standards.
- Gasketed accesses are located at both ends of
the valve. Gate blade is easily removed from the opening at the retract
enclosure end of the valve.
- Gate rollers and pinion shaft heavy duty ball
bearings are fitted with grease fittings suitable for pressure lubrication.
Fittings are easily accessible from the exterior of the valve.
- Gate blade is deep "U"-shaped, with punched
ladder racks at the top of the "U".
- Racks mesh with, and are driven by, stainless
steel pinions which provide a self-cleaning drive assembly.
- Inlet configuration keeps gate rollers and
rack and pinion drive assembly out of the material flow.
- The valve design incorporates a "displacement
pocket" which permits additional gate blade travel past the edge of the inlet
throat. This prevents wedging of material between the gate blade leading edge
and housing and aids in complete closure through a standing column of
material.
OPTIONS
- Manual actuation is by a
(handwheel/chainwheel) connected to the pinion shaft (turned through a
flange-mounted gear reducer. The gear reducer output is directly connected and
keyed to the pinion shaft of the valve).
- Water collecting or dewatering feature
incorporates a sloped gate blade allowing water run-off to the retract
enclosure. The retract enclosure on the dewatering valve incorporates a hopper
shaped bottom, rather than being sloped toward the discharge. The bottom of
the hopper is fitted with a flanged or threaded pipe connection provided for
attachment of drain piping.
- Actuation is by a Limitorque or equal
electric operator. Features of this unit are:
- Double torque switch which is
adjustable-switches using heavy-duty silver tip contacts. Switches are
designed to protect the unit in both directions of travel.
- Four position geared limit switch for end
travel control of the unit, as well as remote position indication.
- Heavy-duty 3-phase motor and weatherproof
enclosure throughout.
- Manual operation is provided by a handwheel
which is automatically disengaged upon motor restarting to prevent personnel
injury.
